Authorities in W. Afghanistan Arrest Nine for Illegal Timber Activities

(MENAFN) Law enforcement officials in Afghanistan have taken into custody nine people suspected of unlawfully cutting down trees and driving deforestation in the western Badghis province, according to reports.

The arrests occurred while the individuals were reportedly conducting unauthorized logging operations near the outskirts of Tagab and Muqar districts, as stated by the Ministry of Interior Affairs.

Afghanistan has faced persistent challenges with deforestation, worsened by years of conflict, economic hardship, and illicit timber trading.

As part of broader environmental protection and sustainable resource management efforts, the government has enacted a nationwide ban on both deforestation and the hunting of wild animals.
