Pakistan Market Blast Leaves 9 Dead, 22 Injured in KPK

(MENAFN) A powerful explosion tore through a busy marketplace in Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Tuesday, claiming at least nine lives and leaving more than 20 others wounded, according to a local administration official who spoke to media by phone.

The deadly blast struck Sarai Naurang, a town in the Lakki Marwat district, the official confirmed, speaking under the condition of anonymity.

"Right now, I am at the hospital, (and) nine bodies had been brought here, so far. At least 22 injured people are also receiving treatment," the official stated.

Two of the fatalities were police personnel, the official confirmed, while authorities have yet to determine the precise nature of the explosion. As of the time of reporting, no group has come forward to claim responsibility.

Security forces swiftly sealed off the surrounding area and initiated a formal investigation, as emergency rescue teams worked to transport the wounded to nearby medical facilities.

The attack is the latest in a troubling pattern of escalating militant violence across Pakistan's northwestern territories, where both security forces and civilians have increasingly borne the brunt of such strikes in recent years.

Islamabad has persistently pointed the finger at the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), alleging the group exploits safe havens inside neighboring Afghanistan to launch cross-border operations. Kabul, however, has firmly rejected those claims, maintaining that the TTP holds no foothold on Afghan soil.
